we are hosting our wedding reception in our backyard next June...I would like to plant flowers that will bloom that time of year- I would prefer whites and blues but any color is ok...suggestions? (I am a NYC girl who has just moved to the country...I haven't planted more than a chia pet in two decades! but I can learn...)
thanks
Flower suggestions....?
You are tempting fate! Enlist the help of your neighbors for help with planting and other questions about growing flowers. White flowers might include Shasta daises, sweet alyssum, hollyhocks, and maybe some oriental lillies. Blue flowers are more difficult to find. Petunias, verbena (dark blue/purple), lavender, delphiniums, campanula and blue saliva. You could even try some rose bushes. Some plants listed are annuals and some are perennials. Plant the perennials this fall and the annuals go in after frost next spring.
Reply:you need to go to a flower nursery and ask them what kind of flowers to plant or plants some that already in pots that way they would already be bloomed .....
Reply:Petunias would be in bloom. They are both white and blue. You can also get Kiss Me Kate spiderworts that are a pretty blue. Some roses would be in bloom and they can come in white and blue.
Congratulations on the wedding.
Reply:The answer totally depends on what part of the country (as in what state) you live in. Certain plants bloom in different climates at different times. You should go to a gardening website , there are several, and search around for your state. If not, just go to any local plant nursery and ask someone who works there. In fact, that is probably your best bet. Someone who lives in your area. Also, you may want to test the soil, to make sure it isn't devoid of any minerals, cause I know that this is a "one chance" thing. You don't want the plants to die when it is too late to plant new ones. If worse comes to worst, plant whatever flowers that are already blooming that you want, but do it a day or so before. The flowers that are already there should be fine for that long. Just fill in the ugly dirt spaces in between with some type of wood mulch (the red stuff is pretty).
