I thought of a way to save a little money for my wedding. Let me know what you think. I wanted to not have a ceremony site and just do the ceremony at the reception site. Have an aisle down the center of the guest tables. When the guests come in, the ushers will seat them to their table where they can watch the ceremony and enjoy the reception. The bride and groom will stand facing their table during the ceremony but sit facing the guests during the reception. Is this making sense. I wanted to figure out a way to save money for my wedding and this was one of the ideas I came up with. By the way the wedding will be outdoors in a garden. The colors are a deep blue and white with white flowers everywhere. What do you think?
Wedding ceremony question...?
Having the wedding and reception at the same site is a good idea but here is something else you could do... Instead of having them sit at the tables why not have the tables off to the side and just have the rows of chairs and than while you and your hubby are taking pics the location can be moving the tables into place for the reception. I think it would be a more elegant touch to the wedding.
This is what I am doing for my wedding.
Reply:That's exactly what we did. The tables were off to the side, leaving an "aisle" down the middle. The guests sat at the table where they would have their dinner. It all worked out really well, and a lot of the guests made comments on how they liked the idea. I had my wedding at a restaurant and we had a beautiful view across the ocean and the lights of the shoreline of Long Beach, Ca. We didn't have ushers seat people, I had place cards which told people what table they were assigned. We had each table marked with the number, so it was easy for our guests to find their way. We also made our own invitations, RSVP cards, thank you cards, place cards, and programs. That saved a lot of money. If you want more info, you can email me.
Congrats on your upcoming nuptials.
Reply:Sounds beautiful! A wedding doesn't have to be in a church. It's the intention and the end result that matters; the marriage. I'm sure it will be just beautiful and a memorable event for all! Enjoy the day...it goes fast!
Reply:Check with the venue before you think your saving money. Many might charge for the extra time needed to have the ceremony there as well.
Reply:My fiance and I are getting married in a historic mansion that has been converted into a hotel. Unless the weather is unseasonably warm and we're able to use the courtyard for the ceremony, we're having the ceremony in the same ballroom as the reception. The way it works is this: the staff set up half the ballroom for the ceremony and use a partition-wall to separate that half of the room from the other half. The other half has all the tables and chairs for the reception. The tables will be set up with linens and china, just squashed together until they can be moved. After the ceremony, we and our guests can mingle outside on the veranda for about 10 minutes while the staff remove the partition and arrange the tables for the reception. Very quick and easy. Lots of people use the same place for both the ceremony and reception. Our venue has a beautiful courtyard that lots of people use for their ceremony. However, our wedding is in February. Here in Austin, that means it could be 70 degrees and pleasant, or 40 degrees and rainy... you never know! That's why we picked a venue that could easily accommodate an indoor ceremony and reception.
It's usually pretty easy to change the room from 'Ceremony' to 'Reception' in about 10 - 15 minutes, if you have people who know what they're doing.
By the way, nice colors!
Reply:It is a very interesting idea. I have never heard of this before. The only snag I can see is if you have round tables, some of the chairs will be facing the wrong way, so leave room for them to maneuver around.
Otherwise have the tables off to the sides and just have rows of chairs for the ceremony. After the ceremony, have a cocktail hour in a location out of the way and the tables can be set back up. Good luck!
Reply:My sister n' law is a wedding planner in Orlando. She's done this set up several times and it has worked out well. Once the ceremony is finished any extra decor is removed and that space becomes the dance floor. It's definitely a way to save a few $$$. Below is a photo show of a wedding she did with the same type of set up - it was indoors but the ceremony %26amp; reception was held in the same room.
Reply:Hi and congratulations!
Wow...that sounds beautiful! I love the colors and the flowers!!
My only suggestion would be the same as others have already suggested.
Is there a way to have the tables possibly NOT set up yet? Simply have the rows of chairs and maybe a little "aisle"? And then, after the ceremony, set the tables up?
OR...if that is too complicated and they will charge you "extra" to do that....then forget it.
In either case, my other suggestion would be...why not FACE your guests? My daughter did this at her wedding and EVERYONE commented that it was so nice instead of looking at the back of the bride and groom as usual.
Good luck and I hope you have a beautiful garden wedding!
Reply:I think it is a great idea! We were going to do the same thing. But when searching for a ceremony and reception site at the same place they told us we would have to pay $5 a person for the ceremony. Unfortunately for us it turns out to be very expensive. Just make sure there are no extra fees! Hope it works out for you! Good Luck!
Reply:It sounds wonderful...
Many people have their ceremony where they have there reception...Not only does it saves money but also time.
Reply:Many people do that and it's nothing to feel ashamed or weird about. My friend had her wedding at this gorgeous site. The chairs were seated like normal for a wedding w/ a center aisle. After the wedding ceremony was over, they asked that the guests mingle outside. They provided finger foods and punch. Meanwhile, inside, the staff rearranged the area with tables and the chairs around it w/ all the food set up as well. So, when we went back inside it was transformed. I think your idea sounds great!
