My friend is getting married on Feb. 14, 2009, and I'm her MOH. She wants a mostly wintery theme using chocolate brown and copper, and touches of lime or mint green, and a VERY subtle Valentine's theme woven in, but not with red or pink (she doesn't have anything against those colors, just wants to do something "outside the box.") Any ideas for flowers, centerpieces, favors, food, bridesmaid/groomsmen outfits, etc.?
Some background: She is in her late 30's and her fiance is in his late 20's, and they're not "frilly" kind of people... yet they're willing to spend quite a bit on their wedding. There are only going to be about 60-70 guests, and the wedding is going to be held at a lodge in New Mexico, with the ceremony in the foyer, in front of a fireplace, and the reception in the dining room/great room.
Any input would be appreciated!
Ideas for Valentine's Day wedding (NOT red or pink)?
I got married around Valentine's Day. One thing that I can say is that if you are trying to save some money, stay away from using roses as your flowers. They triple in price around Valentine's Day (the price of other flowers go up as well). I discovered that after I had booked my venue...

A cute idea that we used was the Valentine's Conversation Hearts. We took those and scattered them on the table at the reception venue. It looked really cute - and a lot of people ate them. :) She could make hearts her theme - they don't have to be in pink.
For the bridesmaids you could put them in a brown or copper dress - then perhaps you can add a mint green sash in order to coordinate. You should check out Mori Lee and Eden Bridals. They have some beautiful bridesmaids gowns and they are affordable. You can have the groomsmen in black tuxs. Then have the groom wear a brown vest and the groomsmen wear a mint green vest - or vice versa. .
For flowers, you could use a nice cream colored flower with some green hydrangeas wrapped in brown ribbon/fabric. Maybe something like this:

There are a few options for centerpieces. Flowers are beautiful, but can get pricey and floating candles/candles are lovely as well. Here are a few that would match her colors/theme:

For favors, maybe you can do something like this:

As for the food, try to keep thing simple. Chicken, Prime Rib, Mash Potatos, roasted vegetables, salad, dinner rolls, etc.
I hope that this helps! Good luck to you! ?
Reply:I think the warmth of many candles would be wonderful with these colors and setting. A lodge can be very romantic, I think they could play up the natural setting quite a bit. They could use pine cones for decor or favors.
They could have hot chocolate served in mugs...cheap and has a certain romance to it and very "Wintry" especially with the fire place.
If there are several children they could have a children's table and have papers, scissors, punches, etc. so the children can make valentines.
Reply:I would suggest having pine cones and thin curly twigs woven into her bouquet with light and dark green foliage and the odd burnt orange gerbera. you could carry that on to the other flower arrangements. The favours could contain brown chocolate hearts for the subtle valentine theme, a chocolate fountain would be cool as well. Bridesmaids could wear burnt orange / brown sash or vice versa.
Reply:Paired items, like two cranes/swans, double heart favors and cake topper,
CANDY SECTION: different kinds of chocolate and heart shaped candies displayed for everyone to take and eat with their names on them.
have the bridesmaid dress in romantic silhouettes...try silky shining material in floor length.
Crystal Wedding Trees are really romantic looking
go to www.cristalier.com and see some ideas.
Reply:to get valentines day theme in there, you could do hearts - but brown hearts instead of red. maybe favors could be little heart shaped boxes of valentines day chocolates. and
the cake could be like this http://webmallindia.com/images/2869/big/...
Reply:rustic topiarys shaped in hearts with moss and twining branches using the colour themes of the wedding for centerpieces
candleabras
the food could be anything really like smoked salmon pinwheels and different types of quiche
Reply:She could get invitations with hearts on them and a heart emblem for the cake topper. Favors could be the candy conversation hearts
Reply:Chocolate covered strawberries come to mind
Reply:It will be hard to capture the esscence of Valentine's Day without the traditional colors, but I can understand why she chose not to go with them! She could go for secondary theme of romance, which will tie the two together. For the favors, she could have little verses or quotes relating to love attached, she could use old postcards for place cads with valentine or romance theme, centerpieces could be simple glass vases, with ribbon that looks like a handwritten note (some crafts stores have it) wrapped around the center...Things like that.
