My FH and I have decided on a wedding date of October 31, 2008. We fell in love with a certain reception site and found that this was the only date they had available for next fall. We booked, and we are both very excited, but we want to stay away from the Halloween theme. Of course we want it to be fun and exciting, but we also want it to about our wedding and not about a crazy holiday. Any ideas on some themes, flowers, favors, etc.? How do we make sure that guests do not make the mistake of assuming we are going with a Halloween theme? Any advice/suggestions will be appreciated!
We are getting married Friday October 31, 2008 but do not want to do a Halloween theme...any ideas?
My hubby and I were married on Oct. 28th, and we did a spicy fall theme. We had orange, burgendy, deep browns, golds, and all the colors of fall. This is the design of our invitations and we just went from there on the rest:

My dress had the most beautiful burgendy stitching on it, so it all went together nicely.
Here are some other weddings that took place in fall that might help you:
Reply:a fall theme would be the best thing. you can go to theknot.com to get ideas on flowers, favors, etc. it's really helpful.
Reply:Make sure you do not choose fall colors, choose spring or summer ones!
You may want your bridal party to spread the word that everyone should arrive dressed up for a wedding and that it is a serious occasion, not a costume party!
Reply:An autumn theme I guess then is your best bet - but I think people would be expecting Halloween. Make sure your are clear to people that it is NOT a Halloween wedding.
What about a "Carnivale" theme, it's still a masquerade. You could have little masks and things as favors
Reply:I wouldn't worry about it! Just because you are getting married on 10/31 doesn't mean it has to be Halloween themed! Just plan the wedding the way you want, and by word of mouth make sure your family and friends know it's not a theme wedding! I'm sure you won't have a problem!
Reply:Fall colors are prefect i just got married 3 week ago but or first date was for November and that what we where going to do, orange, red and yellow, you have so many options, or you can do whatever you guys like, I'm just giving you my personal advise get someone really close of you or someone you trust to help you with the details because it can be really stressful.
PS: my best wishes to you guys
Reply:People won't really expect it too much, they know that they are choosing to go to your wedding on Halloween instead of going to a Halloween party so they'll be in a "wedding mode." Fall colors are beautiful, but may still feel unsettling to you bc of the day. Just imagine yourself getting married on a random day and think of the colors or theme you would have really chosen. I guess if you really wanted to, you could have the guests dress up, but more of a "Masquerade" or "ball" theme since people usually come in "sunday clothes." But that still would have nothing directly associated w/ Halloween bc you still would do your own colors. Do what you choose!

in your wedding invitation say something about a fall wedding
Reply:go for a beautiful fall wedding! use browns, oranges, bronzes or golds as your colors, and just as a wink to the fact that your wedding is on halloween you could do candy corn or those little plastic trick or treating jack o lantern bags filled with other candy for favors. your centerpieces could be carved pumpkins with fake candles inside, but instead of some ugly face carved in, it could be some sort of beautiful design or pattern, surrounded by dry fall leaves (real candles and dry leaves don't mix). i love the idea of a fall wedding, or if you want to take it a step further theme wise: there's nothing quite like central park in the fall.
Reply:im having a fairy tale theme ...like the whole prince and princess theme i suggest that because there is alot of things you can buy to make it look good im actually going to get a horse carrige to ride in after the wedding and my dad is making me a gazebo thats supposed to look like a carrige like in cinderella and we're going to have it on the beach
Reply:Hi and congratulations!
If I received your invitation, it would not even dawn on me that it would be a Halloween theme, unless the invite screamed "theme" and/or you requested the guests to dress up!
I am not a fan of themes but if you want one, simply go with a fall theme....oranges, yellows, reds, colored leaves, etc. What you can do is to pick a few colors that you like and use that as your theme. There are some elegant "fall" candle holders, etc. from various retailers and online for centerpieces, etc.
Good luck!
Reply:As a planner, I tell my couples it's your day - do what you want. You can plan your theme around your favorite color, your favorite theme, your favorite scene in a movie, anything. Just because it's on a holiday or any other nationally celebrated day doesn't make it a necessity to center your wedding around that. Before your wedding day, your guests will be able to tell what theme or idea you're going with by looking at the save the dates (if you plan to use them) or by your invitations. Your wedding party and others can also spread the word if they need to. So no worries.
As for ideas for themes, start by thinking about what are favorites among you and your FH. The internet, your friends, and your local planner can give you ideas about what can be coordinated with your favorite color, flower, book, etc.
Good luck and have fun!
Reply:I agree with making it fall themed or just don't work with a theme.
Maybe to make it unpredictable you can make it some thing other than season themed like incorporating something both of you like eg. the beach use shells and sand. have your friend n family help you can check out online sites that give advice etc.
Oh boy i think i should start planning how i want mine to be then i'll find my groom lol. thanks for making me think about it.
Best of luck to you and your soon to be husband and may the lord bless you with jus enough kids (that is if you want them). may You two grow old together and enjoy each others company.
Reply:Just because you're getting married on 10/31 doesn't mean you have to have fake spiders and webs and guests dressed like witches and ghouls. It's the fall, so run with that theme. Bright colors, earthy decorations, and wonderful scenary.
Reply:You can use a "fall theme" with fall colors. Leaves, pine cones, gourds, etc. Instead of Halloween, think Thanksgiving decor when you are decorating. Hopefully you'll be able to find some lovely fall decoration ideas. Congratulations!
Reply:you're going to get a lot of people upset that by attending your wedding, they're going to miss out on Halloween fun. especially if you are inviting children. just something to keep in mind.
Reply:I would just stick with a fall theme. Use colors like golds, deep reds, burnt oranges and rich browns.. Consider having lanterns with tea lights. Maybe use Mums as your centerpiece flowers. You could do a signature drink of Apple Cider or a Caramel Apple Martini
For favors, consider doing M%26amp;Ms in your wedding colors.
Reply:Use whatever fall decorations you like and skip the jackolanterns, etc that are associated with Halloween.
Reply:make it fall themed...oranges and reds and yellows
Reply:Just go with whatever you want. My cousins got married on Halloween, and she had white and lavendar.
