I was brainstorming some non-expensive DIY centerpieces... I am really ticked about paying for flowers that are going to die in a week so I thought why not do bamboo centerpieces they don't die (if you take care of them) and double as great favors so I was thinking this...
Buying Bamboo stems and cutting them into 3 sets of 3 different heights. Then, buying three different height squared vases and fill them up with wedding color crystals) and doing the following...
Each table would have 3 square centerpieces of different heights.
The tallest vase would include crystals with 3 bamboo stems and I would add 3 stems of orchids to add color and definition.
The medium vase would include crystals and 3 Bamboo stems and I would add 5 roses tied together down the stems with a colored ribbon.
Then the smallest vase would be 3 bamboo stems and 3 lilies placed on the corner.
What do you guys think? I know it may be a little difficult to visualize but would also like you opinions. I think this is an affordable easy DIY project with lots of height and variation with little flowers as possible therefore it won’t be such a large flower expense.
FYI- My colors are pink and green (inspired by orchids I love orchids) and the ceremony is on a ranch style home outdoors with a ceremony outside by a fountain. And the actual reception under a large gazebo with a beautiful wood detailed roof.
My fiancé and I are also very simple laid back outgoing people.

Cake Crisis with only 4 days left, Please HELP!?
Okay, I just heard from my reception hall that they can not provide the cake I chose for my wedding THIS Saturday because the cake store has discontinued it. I can't believe it. So, I'm going to publix and have it narrowed down to one cake I like. The first link is for the cake shape and size that I like. Three tiers, towers inbetween (mine will have flowers not a bride and groom) and feeds around 75-95 guests. The second link is to a cake whose decoration I like, with the swags. What do you think? Will it look right if I do the size and shape of the first cake with the decoration from the second cake? I can't believe this is happening 4 days before the wedding!

So Yes! I would consider $7,000 quite a lot to spend on 2 people and a honeymoon!

I would rather spend that $6,000 on a wedding that included a vacation than just on the ceremony and reception alone! But that's just me - I'd take the trip any day! (But I'm a HUGE traveller so holiday vs big wedding is a no brainer for me. Haha.)

In a reminiscing mood lately, I came across my old wedding album from my first marriage. I should've know it was a mistake:
the florist refused to work with my flowers,
the original banquet hall we chose went bankrupt and closed, the one we went with had been on the news for a killing having taken place there,
my bridal outfit fitting/consultant fell down some stairs at her home and died just weeks before the wedding,
his parents and groomsmen pick a fight with my best friend showing up to the reception,
my godmother laid into my new husband just after that,
my ex-boyfriend (was invited by my sister) gave me his phone numbers,etc. after swigging down a bottle of champagne as I passed his table making my "Thank you" rounds,
new in-laws came up to the bridal suite to take back their monetary gift (because again, my best friend came to the reception, and they don't like her!)
Sooooo...anyone else have similar stories?

Not as good/bad as yours, gurlfriend, but, my marriage was done righted by a one, Pastor Bob. This is a true story...18 years ago, I married a young and beautiful Swedish girl named 'Vivi'. I was 25, she was 20 and smokin hot. Her middle name was Virginia, I swear. Vivi Virginia...anyone up snuff on what Roman numbers VIVIVI stand for? Yeh, 666...3 kids, 3 men later, nobody has put a stake in her heart yet. I married/divorced the devils daughter and been raising our son since he was 2. He's a good kid though, victem of circumstance

Flaws and incompatibilities are overlooked because they are so desperate to get married. Friends and family saw all the signs but don't want to say anything. And usually after the divorce is final the parties say "I should have known it wouldn't work out." Well, yes, you should have.
My sister dropped out of college to get with her high school boyfriend who was possessive and verbally abusive. No matter what we said she wouldn't listen (It's my life not yours mentality). Then she wondered what went wrong when he left her for another woman after she had her third child with him.
As far a similar stories I called my wife by the wrong name when we were getting married by a guy who sounded like Elmer Fudd and she broke out in an uncontrollable fit of laughter. 18 years later we are still going strong.

I knew a guy who married a Samoan girl. At the reception, her mother decked her with a right hook.
Believe it or not, they never consumated their marriage even after 6 months, and they finally got divorced.
Reply:My ex- tried to commit suicide the week before our wedding, and I was not sure she would be out of the mental hospital in time. My ex-mother-in-law had lost her prescription to prozac, and borrowed her husband's valium instead, and fell on her face while walking down the aisle, tripped on her gown, and stood up laughing, saying to the photographer, "Did you get a good shot of that one?" My ex-father-in-law got so smashed at the wedding that he began dancing with my mother and was caught on tape pinching her butt. Then he and my ex-mother-in-law stumbled into our hotel room while we were consumating our wedding, and my ex-mother-in-law said, "oh dear, that is not the way you do it." That is about what I can remember.
Reply:he promised not to drink and shows up to our room (at a casino we ran away to get married at), with margaritas at 6 am..the minister couldnt leave because my new drunk husband blabbered for an hour...asked him to write a post dated check cause he gambled it! Got home on the threshhold was a stunned dove..i ended up saving...as a sign from God saying "peace" and husband just wanted another blank check for more booze...it was 4 more years of doomsday...yeah all the signs were there retarded of me...
Reply:We went to the court house. The card did not clear, even though I had made the deposit. He had an emergency blank check in his wallet ( I made him keep there) and they accepted it.

2 questions!!! #1 Calla lillies expensive in FL? #2 Silk faux paux?
#1. Love calla lillies but are unsure of cost. Would like to spend no more than $500-$700 %26amp; bridesmaids offered preparation (afraid florist will be too much). Reception is at country club %26amp; desired vibe is romantic evening in candlelight with clean %26amp; simple -but elegant-flower arrangements.There is no flower wholesaler locally that I know of, nor have I ever seen a calla lilly in Publix, or in Florida for that matter, etc. Please let me know if I'm out of my mind.
#2. Before I begin let me tell you that I despise fake flowers. However, while in Pier 1 Imports, I have to admit they had the most gorgeous long stemmed flowers -about $4-$7 ea %26amp; they are huge. Black and Pink?
I really want to do black and white as my wedding colors. But, I also want to add something to that, to brighten up reception. I was thinking about doing pink. I want my bridesmaids to wear black dresses. I have girls of all different sizes, so I feel black gives them an advantage and more options to find something flattering. I wanted to add pink sashes (I was thinking hot pink) to the bridesmaid dresses.
The flowers and centerpieces would be a mixture of light pink and hot/brigher pink flowers. I like the contrast of those different shades together. I was thinking Stargazer Lillies and pink and ivory roses.
What do people think about the addition of hot pink? This is for a summer wedding. Do you think pink can be done with class and sophistication?
I'm having a Catholic mass and a traditional semi-formal reception. The girls will be wearing longer evening type dresses.

I've seen tons of pictures of black and (light) pink together and they look beautiful together. Reminds me of Marilyn Monroe era.

I didn't like black for summer but I totally understand why you would like it, it makes it so much easier to dress your bridesmaids and they have dresses they can wear again. I would say go with pinks, up to two shades you don't want to over do it against the simple black and white.

Should we elope?
Our wedding is 10 months out, but we just are so ready to marry. (We are waiting til marriage to have sex so we are also anxious PHYSICALLY, although this isn't all.) Our engagement will be 14 months by the time we marry, and we will have been dating almost 5 years. My parents are very controlling and have objected to EVERYTHING we propose. We thought that everything would calm down, but it has only gotten worse. My bridesmaids and his groomsmen were picked for us. The reception has turned into a very very very high dollar affair that my parents wanted much more than us. My mom over rules all of my ideas and I just can't seem to be right around her. My fiance and I can't help but to feel like this is not what we wanted out of our wedding. We wanted to get married this summer and have a wedding focused on the vows we say to eachother and our love and committment to eachother, not about flowers and the big party afterward.
I love my family, but I don't know how much we can take.
Should we elope?
Take back control of your wedding plans. Don't "propose" things for your wedding, tell them this is the way it is to be. Let them know that what they are planning is not what the two of you want. Let them know that if they don't stop planning this big hugh affair, you will elope and they won't be there to see the two of you get married! I know if my child said that to me, I'd stop in my tracks. Being there would be more important to me than anything else.
I hope I rememeber this advice when my son decides to get married. LOL ;)

2) you stand up for yourselves and tell your parents (nicely of course) that you appreciate what they are doing, but you should have a say in YOUR wedding. Beware of violent reactions from your parents though. it could get nasty.
3) eloping is a very dumb thing to do. nobody is objecting to your marriage. so why the need to elope? your problems are your control freak parents. and it will possibly cause 100x more trouble than #2

If that's naked on a beach in the Bahamas..then it's YOUR wedding! Don't 'talk' to your parents, TELL them enough is enough. Sure they will be disappointed, (maybe even angry) but seriously, you want to remember this for the rest of your life FONDLY! You won't be able to if you've had no say in it. They will get over it eventually, and if not, sorry, but you have a new family to love as much as you love them.

My husband was completely shocked after we got engaged. He was like all about having a wedding, and said it would never fly with his family us not having a wedding. Well, we were married at the courthouse by a judge, HAHAHAHA.
And it was still great!!! And it was special because it was private....but his parents still would like to have a ceremony, so I guess we are doing something at a later time. But I have no interest in planning it.
I would say, go ahead, get married, do what YOU want. And then let your family have their celebration. If this wedding isn't really all about you (which is how it seems by what you are saying) then let them have their party, but you do what you want as well!!!
